Modern Quilts

The colors and layouts of modern quilts is striking!  I just finished quilting a wall hanging for one of my clients that utilized bright hand-dyed fabrics and interesting piecing – I used a modern maze design quilting in the center and curved piecing in the outer border.  Love the effect!

Love those Repro Fabrics!

I am a sucker for reproduction fabrics which are exactly what they are – fabrics with prints and colors inspired by fabrics used back in the 1800’s and early 1900’s.  When you want a quilt to have that old-fashioned look it’s repro fabrics that you need.  When I get these beautiful quilt tops full of reproduction fabrics I pair a traditional quilting pattern to finish that vintage look.  For this quilt I chose one of my favorite traditional quilting patterns called the “Baptist fan” = a series of evenly spaced arcs nested across the quilt.

A busy week!

I was able to spend a fair amount of time quilting this week for my clients.

It felt good to have a productive week!  I wanted to share a photo of some of the specialized quilting I did on a client quilt – very simple piecing pattern that is really enhanced by the paisley quilted pattern… can’t wait for her to see it!

A thoughtful comment from a fellow longarm quilter…

Several years ago my quilt guild’s show ( www.CVQG.org  ) had slips available for people to leave comments for the quilter.   I was so touched by the following from a longarm quilter from Queensbury, NY:

“Love your choice of quilting designs on all the quilts I’ve seen in the show – this year and last.  I’m a LAQuilter myself.”

This meant a lot to me to receive this message and I still have it posted at my desk in my quilt studio…..
