Belated Happy New Year – Here’s to a Decade of Machine Quilting!

I had a major issue with my website access preventing me from posting but… all is good now!

I realized that 2015 marks a decade that I’ve had my Gammill and have been Machine Quilting…. logging in at over 1200 quilt projects quilted.

Over the holidays I quilted my show quilt for this year.Dresden Beauty in Indigo_detail

It’s an original design called “Dresden Beauty in Indigo” using indigo fabrics for the Dresden plate blocks with a New York Beauty-style layout. I pieced it during Fall Quilt retreat with my guild at Camp Abanaki but did not get a chance to quilt it until the end of the year. Here is a photo of the quilt and a blow-up of the quilting detail:

Nice article in Seven Days this week on Quilting

oldefashionedcharmOne of the key missions of Champlain Valley Quilt Guild is to educate the public on our craft.  As an outreach to get more information out to the public the guild contacted Seven Days a local independent paper to write an article about quilting and asked several of its members if they would be interviewed and share a sample of their work.  I gladly participated and am thankful to Seven Days for featuring our craft in their Art section this week.

Here is a link to the article – I encourage you to read about quilting today. My favorite local quilt store Yankee Pride is also featured in this article as well as several other quilters from my guild.

Busy times – lots of quilts!

I’ve been very busy quilting lately –fall quilt

the most recent is a customer quilt that really spells out FALL!

Good news for one of my customers who entered her quilt I had quilted in the Champlain Valley fair – her quilt earned a blue ribbon and won best of category:customer quilt ribbons

She also had brought me one of the cutest children’s quilt to quilt for her nephew who was graduating into a big boy’s bed:

Well, fall starts tomorrow – and fall is a great season for quilting! (Of course every season is for me…)

From Custom Applique to Sock Monkeys – Happy Labor Day!

Great day today – very hot outside so I spent a lot of time quilting inside today –

Started the day with a small wall hanging that was very traditional center medallion applique piece that required custom free-motion quilting and ended the day with an all over computer driven quilting of a sock monkey quilt (found a digitized all over design of sock monkeys to use!)

Love Kaffe Fassett fabrics!

I have recently received quite a few quilts featuring Kaffe Fassett fabrics and love quilting them! I have purchased some myself for a future project but have not had time to use it.  Working with these quilts wants me to buy more fabric!.  What I did not realize by purchasing a few fat quarters is how soft the fabric is… so comfy for a quilt!

Feels good to be quilting again!

Wow – it’s been 1 week since the last day of Vermont Quilt Festival – I underestimated the amount of time it would take during the month of June to be Registrar chair –  many hours but very rewarding to be part of such a wonderful show.

I had 5 clients that entered quilts I had done the quilting on and am happy to say all 5 earned ribbons!  2 yellow, 2 red and 1 blue!  Plus my quilt ‘Coffee in the Cabin’ also earned a yellow ribbon.   So all in all a very successful show!

Vermont Quilt Festival

Vermont Quilt Festival

This is my first year as Registrar and I look forward to meeting students later today as they pick up their badges, along with beautifully designed VQF bags stuffed with useful information, Show catalog, etc.

I do have some of my quilts at the show… Coffee in the Cabin is entered to be judged and two of my other quilts are hanging in the main lobby are in a great display of works by the board members and staff of VQF.   (Also I have several of my clients who have entered their quilts that I had the privilege of quilting for them.)

It’s going to be a fantastic show…. if you are anywhere near the area you should attend! (for you quilters there are also many vendors so you can do some shopping!)

Show runs Friday thru Sunday…. hope you can stop in and enjoy the views!!
